Financial Programs for Canadian Residents

 

  • First-Time Home Buyer Incentive 
    • “The First-Time Home Buyer Incentive helps people across Canada purchase their first home. The program offers 5 or 10% of the home’s purchase price to put toward a down payment.”
  • Home Buyers’ Amount
    • “You can claim $5,000 for the purchase of a qualifying home”
  • Home buyers plan
    • “The Home Buyers’ Plan (HBP) is a program that allows you to withdraw from your registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs) to buy or build a qualifying home for yourself or for a related person with a disability.”
  • Partial mortgage insurance refund
    • “CMHC offers a premium refund of up to 25% on the CMHC mortgage loan insurance premium when you buy or build an energy-efficient home, or you buy an existing home and make energy-saving renovations”

  • Quebec Energy Transition rebates:
    • Renoclimat rebate
      • “Rénoclimat can guide you in your home renovation projects to improve your home’s energy performance.”
    • Chauffez vert rebate
      • “Under the Chauffez vert program, you can receive rapid financial assistance for specific types of energy efficiency work.”
    • Éconologis rebate
      • “Éconologis is an energy efficiency program for low-income households. It allows households to take advantage of free individualized advice and even to have electronic thermostats installed free of charge.”
    • Novoclimat rebate
      • “Novoclimat is a new home program that helps consumers reduce their heating costs by at least 20% and guarantees superior comfort to its future occupants.”
  • Société d’habitation du Québec:
    • Residential adaptation assistance program
      • “Its goal is to allow the person with a disability to enter and leave their home, to access the essential rooms of their home and to perform activities of everyday life safely.”
    • Program for homes damaged by pyrite (French website only)
      • “Part I: financial assistance for carrying out work – Part II: financial assistance for the production of expert reports (New).”
    • RénoRégion rebate (French website only)
      • “The objective of the RénoRégion program is to provide financial assistance to low- or modest-income owner-occupants who live in rural areas to carry out work to correct major defects in their home.”
  • Énergir:
    • Grants for new customers
      • Grant for choosing an energy-efficient appliance.
      • Replacing an oil-fired appliance with a natural gas appliance.
    • Grants for current customers
      • “Énergir customers may be eligible for a number of grants upon purchasing natural gas appliances, whether they are additions or replacements. Grants are also available to help you implement energy-efficiency measures in your home.”
    • Low income household supplement
      • “Énergir offers supplementary financial assistance to low-income households of up to double the amount of the usual energy efficiency program grant.”

Financial Programs for Montreal Residents

 

  • Home buyer’s tax credit
    • If you qualify, “The maximum tax credit is $750 for a qualifying home. You can split the amount between everyone who is eligible to claim the credit for the same qualifying home.”
  • Renovation programs:
    • RenoPlex
      • “Do you own a building in Montréal and want financial support for renovation work? Whether you are an individual, a company, a housing co-operative or non-profit organization, this program may help you pay for your work if you meet the criteria.”
  • Renovation à la carte
    • “The program grants you a fixed amount according to the type of renovation you want to carry out.”
  • Major Residential Renovation
    • “exclusively intended for NPOs and housing cooperatives whose project consists in demolishing and reconstructing a residential building.”
  • New renovation program for affordable housing
    • “The Affordable housing reno program offers subsidies to owners of buildings containing 6 or more dwelling units to encourage them to renovate their property to extend its usable life, improve quality of life for tenants and encourage ecological transitions.”
